The Porn Star Martini is a vanilla and passion fruit flavoured cocktail creation that has been at the top of the World’s Top 100 Cocktails list for years.
It tastes, as the older among you will remember, exactly like Cujamarasplit, the Langnese ice-cream flavour from the 1980s. The Porn Star Martini was supposedly invented in Australia (but I haven’t found any evidence of this), but was definitely given its provocative name and made really famous by Douglas Ankrah and his legendary and award-winning Lab Bar in London.
A Porn Star Martini is traditionally served in a martini glass, accompanied by an iced shot glass filled with champagne.
The Monkey Bar in Cologne serves it in a champagne goblet and instead of champagne, the shot is served with Prosecco, sparkling wine or Cremant.
According to Douglas Ankrah, his intention was not to whitewash pornography. However, he knew that suggestive cocktail names – such as “Sex on the Beach” or “Orgasm” – often go down well. He once described the cocktail in an interview as a “stylish and confident drink”, a “pure pleasure, sexy, fun and impressive”, which he came up with while visiting a strip club. Apart from its name, it reminds me personally more of an exciting summer’s day. Fruity passion fruit, velvety vanilla and sparkling champagne.
But how do you drink a Porn Star Martini like this? Pour it in or drink it separately?
Of course, you can simply pour the shot into the cocktail. The martini glass is only full enough for the champagne to fit in. The dry champagne bubbles complement the fruity sweetness and creamy consistency of the foam.
The gourmets among the Porn Star Martini cocktail drinkers, on the other hand, alternate between a sip from the martini glass and a sip of champagne. They savour the two opposites separately. First creamy cujamarasplit, then sparkling wine.
Or you can opt for a mixture. First drink them separately for a while and then mix them halfway through.
But it really doesn’t matter how you drink it as long as you enjoy doing so.
