I believe the best journeys begin with knowing what you like – and being curious enough to discover what you might love next.
fashionistaTRAVEL is a personal travel blog – my own little online magazine where I share the experiences, places and discoveries I would recommend to my closest friends. It brings together my love of travel, beautiful places and beautiful things, and writing about what I discover along the way.
It is for experienced women who want to see more of the world, travel on their own terms and do it with style. Women who appreciate a beautiful hotel, an exceptional restaurant or a glass of champagne with a view – but are just as happy finding the little place around the corner that nobody seems to know about yet.
For me, luxury has never been about excess. It is about choosing well.
It might be a room with an unforgettable view, dinner somewhere truly special, the perfect dress in my suitcase or simply having the freedom to spend an afternoon exactly as I please. Sometimes luxury costs money. Sometimes it is finding something wonderful that doesn’t. What matters is that it feels worth it.
Perhaps that comes with experience. We have worked hard. We know that life is not a rehearsal, and that there is little point in saving every beautiful thing for someday.
Travel your own way
I like travelling independently. I want to choose my own hotel, find my own restaurants, wander off the obvious route and change my mind along the way. I love recommendations, but I don’t particularly want somebody else’s itinerary.
And I don’t believe you need to wait for the perfect travel companion.
Travelling solo can feel daunting, particularly the first time. But it can also be wonderfully liberating. Part of fashionistaTRAVEL is about encouraging women to go anyway: book the room, reserve the table, wear the dress and discover how good it can feel to explore somewhere entirely on your own terms.
That doesn’t mean roughing it. Independence and comfort are not mutually exclusive. Neither are adventure and style.
Worth the trip
I am not interested in ticking destinations off a list. I am interested in places that stay with me.
A remarkable building. A hotel I would happily cross a border for. A restaurant worth taking a detour for. A neighbourhood that makes me want to keep walking. Quiet luxury, unexpected beauty and hidden gems that deserve to be found – although perhaps not by absolutely everyone.
Everything you find on fashionistaTRAVEL has passed one very simple test: would I recommend it to my closest friends? If the answer is yes, it belongs here.
This isn’t a collection of generic destination guides or exhaustive lists of things you are supposed to see. It is my personal edit: hotels I would return to, restaurants worth making a reservation for, places that took me by surprise, and beautiful things I genuinely enjoy travelling with. Not because they are necessarily famous, fashionable or expensive, but because I believe they are worth your time, your money – and sometimes the journey itself.
And always, travel in style
What we wear is part of how we experience the world.
I don’t believe in abandoning personal style the moment a suitcase appears. I would rather pack fewer things I love, dress for dinner when I feel like it and find the balance between looking good and actually being able to walk through a city all day.
fashionistaTRAVEL is about travelling well, dressing well and making the most of being somewhere new. About choosing the beautiful hotel when it matters, finding the little restaurant you will still be talking about years later, and never saving the good dress for another occasion.
There is a lot of world still to see. I intend to see as much of it as I can as long as I can – and perhaps inspire you to do the same.
